THE LEGEND OF KIRKS FOLLY BY BONNIE HOWARD

The Legend of Kirks Folly

Once upon a time, not so long ago in an enchanted kingdom known as Kirks Folly, there lived a very special family.  The kind and beloved Lady Helen Elizabeth Kirk, who elegantly rode upon the beautiful Sombor and it is told with magical thread and leather, created the first “Follydust pouch”.  Her caring and benevolent husband, the Healer Sir George Kirk, who always encouraged his children that they could do whatever they set their minds to.
Together they raised one son, the strong and mighty, King George of the Gems, and three daughters that were fair of face and full of grace:  Jenniefer the Fairy Godmother, Elizabeth the Protector of the Eternal Fairy Gardens and Lady Helen the Dream Maker – each sibling was very special and possessed unique skills, they were destined to be joined together bringing their individual magical talents to become the legend of Kirks Folly.

One day when Jenniefer the Fairy Godmother and Lady Helen the Dream Maker ventured to live in the New city of York, times were hard and the sisters were struggling in this city where buildings were taller than a full grown dragon’s tail and there were no fairies to be found!  Things looked bleak.  But gifted with the talents from her mother, Lady Helen the Dream Maker crafted beautiful jeweled hairpins to adorn the hair of the lady folk and decided to call them “Glitter Sticks”.   The sisters hoped they could sell these creations to earn a little extra money, for living in the New city of York was very expensive indeed.

Some Glitter Sticks were made of beautiful feathers, some of wooden disks, and some with iridescent beads and prisms hanging from them.  When they took their hairpin creations to the Ye Olde Shop of Bloomingdales, their sparkling Glitter Sticks creations were the talk of the land and Lady Peggy, a buyer of wares for the shop, was so dazzled by their beauty, she ordered over a thousand pieces, for she knew that everyone would want to wear the Glitter Sticks.
The sisters ran home to their mother, Lady Helen Elizabeth, “What shall we do, how will we ever fill this large order?” cried the girls.
Their mother and father reminded their daughters that, “Don’t worry, we will figure this out! Anything is possible, just remember to treat people with honor and respect and you will get it back tenfold”.
The girls took this advice to heart, for their parents were very wise indeed and believed in them so.  There was nothing else to do but to make this dream come true.  So undaunted, they set out to do the impossible!   With the help of their entire family, with brother George and sister Elizabeth joining in,  they  worked late into the night and with creativity, sheer determination and a sprinkle of a little follydust for good measure - - they did it.

Their creation of Glitter Sticks was so sought after that the lady folk of the land requested more and more and their designs grew to include earrings and necklaces with beautiful celestial creations, angels, fairies, and sea creatures - and before they knew it – Kirks Folly became the dynasty of fantasy jewelry it is today.

If you are able to travel to this magical land, use this map as your guide to see the many beautiful sights and visit the homes of the Kirks.  Start with the realm of King George of the Gems, who pray tell is as charming as his gemstones.  King George searches the land far and wide for rare gem stones and beads and what he cannot find, he creates. These magical gems are so beautiful and scarce that they cannot be found anywhere else on earth, that is except in Kirks Folly land.

King George of the Gems sired two strong and handsome sons, Sir George, Knight of the Gem Mines and Sir Joshua, Knight of the Jeweled Pass and one daughter, Fairy Hannah of Pixie’s Peak.  She is fair of face and helps her royal Aunts display their wares in the land of QVC.  They live happily in the kingdom, where King George often comments, “It is good to be King!”  King George is still on his endless search to bring only the highest quality of gems for his sister’s creations.  Sprinkled throughout the map you will see samples of King George’s quest, from the crescent moon to the sparkly gems - for each piece is lovingly created with George’s gems.

If you journey North and walk carefully through the Glitter Sticks Path you will see the first glitter sticks in the shapes of the trees, quite a beautiful sight.  The sparkles from the glitter sticks dance across the path, you may never want to leave this enchanting place.  Hidden north of the Pixie Pine Forest you will come to the home of Elizabeth, Protector of the Eternal Fairy Gardens.
Elizabeth protects the secret of Kirks Folly, although rarely seen, she is such an integral part of the Kirks Folly legend.  Why she was the maker of the first fairy robes.  She created such beautiful patterns and spun exquisite designs that everyone knows that she is the most magical seamstress in all the land. With a head for figures, she protects the harvest of all of Kirk’s folly labor and makes the green grow in her eternal gardens.  Nearby you may be fortunate enough to see Tara’s Hidden Valley; this is where her sweet and kind daughter, Fairy Tara lives with her son, Prince Dylan of the Sprites.  Prince Dylan brings them so much joy; he is the light of their life.

As you travel East, you will come across a very special place in the Kirks Folly Kingdom.  Jenniefer, with the magic of the Follydust pouch that her mother made her, became the land’s Fairy Godmother, granting wishes and sending out her magic with a sprinkle of her follydust to all who come near.  Jenniefer the Fairy Godmother also has the gift of words to enchant all in the land to come and buy the bejeweled creations they make.
She lives in the enchanted Seaview where swans wing their way to catch a glimpse of her and the smiling full moon above, beams down upon her face.  Jenniefer believes that no one is really ever alone when they can gaze upon the same moon whether from Kirks Folly land or from any other earthly realm.  Her adorable Stella and Luna never leave her side and they make her laugh when they bark at the fairies who frequent her hydrangea filled gardens,

If you journey South past the Follydust Mountains (where legend has it that the magical follydust is made of a special blend of pixie dust, moon dust and star dust that is only found hidden in the crevices of these secret mountains) and make your way through Windchime Canyon (where you will hear the melodious chimes when the wind gently blows and beckons the fairies to come out and dance), you will find her daughter Lady Kaena, who lives in Dreamkeepers Castle in the New city of York.
Lady Kaena is a weaver of fabrics and has clothed the world in sparkly fashion the likes of which has never been seen before – all who have worn her sparkly creations are never the same, as they feel so special and pretty, no doubt due to the magical threads she uses.  She has her precious Prince York of Dragons Reach and Princess Nanea of the Fairies to bring sunshine to her life and to continue her legacy.

Be sure to stop and see the Realm of Lady Helen the Dream Maker, she magically turns inspirations into bejeweled creations!  Everyone who meets her knows what a kind and sweet magic she possesses.  Her love of animals is displayed in her beautiful creations she makes and it is always a treat to see her royal Lion Head Rabbit and magical Amazon Parrots that live with her in the kingdom.
Lady Helen turns the simplest idea into reality and makes dreams come true.  If you don’t believe it, just sneak a peek at Mermaid’s cove, there you will see Riptide splashing in the sea, a dream come true for the restless Mermaids who have long searched for a Merman.  You may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Lady Helen’s beautiful daughter, Fairy Lindy – she is the one who inspired the legendary “Fly Home Angel”  wing, a very sought after gem in the land of QVC.
Lady Helen’s son, the dashing and very handsome Sir Kirk of Folly’s Way, has the gift of teaching others to sail the sea.  If you’re lucky enough, when the sun is setting you might just catch a glimpse of his sailboat gliding through Suncatcher Sea.

When you visit the kingdom of Kirks Folly, you may also catch a glimpse of the notoriously handsome Braveheart, that is, if you travel through Cloud Walker Way, it is said this is where Braveheart’s Lair is hidden away, but he is also known to frequent Mermaid cove, as he loves the ladies.
Tucked up north, you may be lucky enough to get stranded on the island with Captain Jack.  Hear tell, his treasure chest is filled to the brim with only Kirks Folly trinkets so you may want to search for his buried treasure too, this map will help you to find it, but watch out for the Kraken who guards it nearby.

If you journey long enough, you will see the secret location of the Portal to the Fairies Factory Workshop, a most special place in all of Kirks Folly land.  Here the Folly Fairies magically work day and night, night and day  - winging their way to and fro in order to bejewel the entire kingdom,  which enables the land to live and thrive off the magic that makes all things possible in the Kirks Folly realm.  Without them – only a few could know the true happiness of wearing a Kirks Folly creation.

In this land of enchantment, fantasy and magic, only the Kirks were chosen to “sparkle the world” and to remind us all that “If you can dream it and believe it, you can do it” –  herein lies the legend of Kirks Folly.
